Meet the artist
Dejanaya is a full time photographer, that still hasn't quit her day job as a sales associate. She loves all things creative, which gives her with a pretty extensive creative resume. Before embracing the artist title, Dejanaya spent every year of her twenties, as a wardrobe stylist, event planner, and creative consultant. Her most notable publications include Honda, Ebony, Metro Philadelphia, Philadelphia Magazine, Carmella Magazine, WXPN, and Okayplayer.
She doesn't hide that during this time between constantly touring, countless client meetings, and the juggling of many creative hats, took a toll on her mentally. "Drawing was very therapeutic for me. I remember my first canvas drawing . It was nothing but a series of lines, but as I kept going, I started to notice I was forming a silhouette of a head and crown. I thought that was pretty cool, so I kept going, seeing what else I could shape." From there, Lovesick Art Gallery came to life. Whenever Dejanaya had a free moment, or just wanted to unwind from the stresses of the day, she would draw, and as the years went by, her drawings became more and more detailed, each one having their own personal story or recollection from her memory bank. |
how to describe a lovesick ag art piece
"Hm, I still struggle with this today, but I would say the best way to describe my art is.... marker drawn silhouettes. Each of them recalling a story or describing a very relatable feeling."
That is right. Each piece is drawn with markers.
Dejanaya seldomly paints, often times just using paint to coat her canvas. Her drawing style, which some say will remind you of Keith Haring or Mr. Doodle, are a series of lines that never run into one another, unless done intentionally (ie "Soulmates").
"I'd like to say that's my thing. That's what keeps me unique. I also like to think that I better control over my art, when drawing in broken lines."
Her signature, which she only discloses with her collectors, are in the artworks itself. "I do this so if anyone every tried to steal or copy my artwork, the court case would go pretty smoothly" she laughs.

What's Next?
"I'm overdue for an art show. I'm thinking Spring 2022, but don't hold me to that. It takes me months to work up the courage to draw a new piece. Drawing with permanent markers will do that to you, but that would next for me. I really would like to have one. Fingers crossed."
